El Gintonic ha adquirido cierta fama en los últimos tiempos, hoy en día es considerado un cóctel chic y es evidente que está de moda, pero ¿fue así en el pasado?

Origen del Gintonic

Quizás lo que muchos de vosotros no sepáis es que el origen del Gintonic se remonta a la época del Imperio Británico, concretamente en India y con un objetivo más medicinal que lúdico. El agua de tónica lleva un componente llamado quinina, que tiene propiedades para combatir la enfermedad de la malaria, y a los soldados desplazados a esta colonia asiática se les ocurrió que era una buena idea combinar la tónica con la ginebra, para mejorar así el gusto amargo tan característico de la tónica.

De este modo, el Gintonic fue creado y, rápidamente, extendido por todo el planeta.

La moda del Gintonic

Actualmente España es el segundo país del mundo consumidor de este cóctel. Pero no siempre fue así, y además no hace tanto… sólo tenemos que remontarnos unos 10 o 15 años para encontrar que el Gin Tonic era la típica bebida que la gente mayor solía tomar a mediodía, precisamente por sus efectos digestivos. ¿Quién podría imaginar que años más adelante se fuera a convertir en el cóctel más consumido en el país?

Curiosidades que no sabías acerca del Gintonic

Aunque antes hemos hablado del origen inglés del Gintonic, la ginebra -su base principal- es holandesa.

No remuevas nunca el Gintonic, la principal característica de este cóctel es el efecto burbujeante, que se pierde al removerlo.

¿Sabías que el Gintonic tiene un día internacional? Es el 13 de Junio, puedes venir a Milolas a celebrarlo.

En 2015 se creó la versión comestible del Gintonic… es un turrón.

Características del Gintonic

Es un cóctel muy valorado para tomar después de una comida o cena copiosa, ya que es un magnífico digestivo, no es nada dulzón y va muy bien para sentirse mejor tras llenar nuestro estómago con alimentos pesados.

Es una de los cócteles más sencillos que existen, sin embargo es sofisticado y elegante.

Hay que evitar mezclarlo con zumo de limón, ya que el ácido del cítrico hace que desaparezcan las características burbujas de la tónica, aunque siempre lo podemos acompañar de la piel del limón a modo de decoración.

Elaboración del Gintonic

Por supuesto, en Milolas encontraréis un Gintonic premium, más este año que contaremos con la ginebra One Gin, la primera ginebra del Maresme.

Aunque os vamos a dar unos consejos para que podáis prepararos vuestro propio Gintonic en casa:

  1. La copa que sea de balón
  2. Añadid unos cuatro cubitos de hielo y enfriad la copa en el interior con ellos, podéis utilizar una cuchara de coctelería para hacerlos girar, o una simple cuchara también os bastará.
  3. La proporción ha de ser de 5 cl. de Ginebra, podéis utilizar el medidor de coctelería o sino, a ojo de buen cubero.
  4. Antes de incorporar la tónica, debemos añadir los botánicos o aromas que queramos, como el enebro, un cítrico, una estrella de anís…
  5. Ahora sí, vertemos la tónica con suavidad para no romper la burbuja.

Ginebra Premium del Maresme: One Gin

Esta ginebra, apodada la Ginebra del Maresme, nace en el Masnou, cuando un grupo de amigos se decide a hacer una pequeña producción de ginebra. El resultado fue una ginebra de gran calidad en pocas cantidades, que ha conseguido un resultado que une todos los elementos del Maresme y del Mediterráneo. Una ginebra cítrica con aromas de mandarina, limón y jazmín.
